Minolta Scan Elite 5400 (Timings)

First created on 21st Jul 2003.

I only do the tests that are relevant to me. When ICE is enabled, GD (Grain Dissolver) is automatically enabled. It is possible to enable GD without ICE, but I didn't test this combination.

I leave it to the individual to draw his/her own conclusion.

Notes (common to all test suites)

The film holder is ejected and reinserted before each scan. Timing is inaccurate up to 2 secs, as it is by ear.

Important note: Scanning speed is observed to differ for different negative film! Other tests (not shown here) indicate that the Fuji Superia 100 is slower by 50%! It may not be film specific, but maybe more exposure time is needed for that particular strip of film.

Scanning seems a little bit slower when color matching is turned on.

a Timing starts once I click on the "Save" button.

b Total time. You can hear coarse stepping followed by a fine stepping.

c Sometimes, clicking can be heard. The program shows "Setting up" from time to time.

d I guess this is the exposure scan.

e Timing stops as soon as the message box disappears.

1 With pauses while scanning.

2 I forgot to time!
